When starting your video marketing journey, there’s a common misconception that you must spend hundreds, if not thousands of pounds on expensive video gear in order to create quality videos. This couldn’t be further from the truth and I’m going to explain why.

Utilise Video Gear You Already Have

When creating your first videos, utilise your existing video equipment and resources.

A tool that most of us have in our pockets but often overlook is our smartphones.

The cameras that smartphones have nowadays are fantastic and can achieve excellent results. You’ll be surprised at the quality of video you can create just by using the camera on your phone. You can even use it as a webcam to up the quality of your zoom meetings!

Some great apps can help make video creation that much more straightforward, whether shooting, editing or publishing.

I think it’s essential to get a few videos under your belt before investing in a lot of expensive video gear. It’s all about understanding the basics and identifying what equipment you could purchase to improve your videos in the future.

Focus on Creating Quality Content

You might have the best sounding video or the best picture quality, but if the content of your videos is boring and doesn't engage your audience, it’s pointless!

People want to watch videos for one of three reasons, to be entertained, educated, or inspired, so focus on what you’re creating before worrying about how it will look.

The content you create always needs to have a purpose which is why it's so important to put a plan in place for each video.

Think about why you're creating the video, who your target audience is, what you're going to say and how you'll market it.

When filming your video, try making your content as engaging as possible. The best way to do this is by being yourself!

Stuck for content ideas? Maybe this will help.

Make Video Audio a Priority

If you were going to invest in any video equipment, start with the audio.

Audio is one of the most critical aspects of your video. Without it, your audience will find it hard to follow the story or key points.

You will get much better audio from dedicated microphones than you will from using microphones built into your camera, but again, you don't have to spend a fortune when starting.

Just remember to choose a solution that best fits your video style.

Different types of microphones will work best for certain types of videos. For example, lapel microphones are ideal for capturing a person walking and talking as they are pinned to their shirts.

Once you know the type of video you will be creating, you will better understand the type of microphone you need for the job.
